Academy of Fine Arts, Maastricht, 1986-1991
Conceptual Post-graduate Academy, Amsterdam, 1999-2000
As a concept developer, Maureen Bachaus is the creative mind behind cultural, curatorial and conceptual art projects throughout Europe. She works as cultural policy advisor for the municipality Eijsden-Margraten (NL), and is co-founder of the international art collective >BAUM<, in cooperation with her partner Jeton Muja. Her work as a conceptual artist, which focuses on the human psychology, is presented by Gallery Kunstkomplex (DE, CHE), Exit11 Contemporary art, Gallery S&H De Buck (BE) and Gallery O-68 (NL).
Essential themes throughout Bachaus' work are the human psyche and the human identity. She translates human thoughts into photography projects, performances, video- or multimedia projects, installations and sculptures. A frequently used material is rope, sometimes pierced roughly through the image, which symbolizes the limitation or even captivity but also the freedom experienced by personal thoughts and feelings.
“My unfeigned eyes and twisted mouth”, 2012.
